Tennis Star Sania Mirza Adjusting to Fame
As the first Indian woman to reach the third round of the Australian Open and win a WTA tournament in Hyderabad, Sania Mirza is getting a lot more attention from the public than she’s used to. Just like Wimbledon champ Maria Sharapova, Mirza now requires an entourage of security guards when she goes out to avoid all the attention. She managed to take India’s eyes off of cricket and put them on tennis, something long thought impossible, and she is flattered when young Indian boys tell her they want to play tennis rather than cricket, as men traditionally do.
