Siemens to Build $400 Million Indian Power Plant
German engineering firm Siemens announced that it has won a $400 million order to build a power plant for a Torrent Group subsidiary. The 1,000-megawatt-combined-cycle natural-gas-fired plant will be built in Akhakhol, Gujarat, about 500 miles north of Mumbai, starting in 2007. Siemens said it was would be making a “significant contribution” to India, where only half the population is served by electricity, and will need to double its power capacity over the next 10 years to deal with population expansion.
