Lesbian Wedding in India
In what could be seen as a cry for gay rights, two Jharkhand women defied law and got married in a ceremony approved by and paid for by their families. Nitima Biruwa and Laxmi Bari wed last week in Bharbaria village of West Singhbhum district, with special thanks to Nitima’s brother Birsa who played a large role in making the ceremony happen, including funding and receiving approval from his mother and other villagers. Originally, Birsa had disapproved of the relationship, but became supportive when he realized his sister wasn’t listening to him anyway.
Hindustan Times didn’t mention the legality of the union.
