Facing severe criticism over delays in restoring power after last week’s floods, Reliance Energy Ltd chairman Anial Ambani said “Arrest me, I am available here,” in response to reports that the government may arrest some REL officials for negligence. In his defense, Ambani apologized for the inconvenience, explained that the disaster was unexpected and the intensity and complexity of restoring power is not well understood by the public. He also announced a Rs 100 crore disaster plan to keep things like this from happening again.

21,000 residential customers were expected to have power within 12 hours, as long as it didn’t rain again.
