Mosquitos Invade Andamans

Indian officials warned about the presence of mosquitos in the Andamans following the recent tsunami that killed 5,500 people in the area. The cause for concern was that scientists found the anopheles sundaicus mosquito in the area, which carries the malaria parasite, and can lay its eggs in salt or fresh water. The dense population in the area further troubled scientists, as well as the lack of cows, which mosquitos would otherwise bite. Local authorities tried to kill the mosquitos but the malarial risk remains.
