Calcutta Gets a McDonald’s

Despite entering India almost 10 years ago, McDonald’s has never had a location in Kolkata - but that’s all to change in 2007. McDonald’s India Managing Director and Joint Venture Partner for North India Vikram Bakshi says that by “2006-07 we will be in a position to expand eastwards and our first outlet will be opened in Kolkata,” as a part of a Rs 400 crore expansion program that will add 22 McDonald’s locations in India this year. The company plans to open 14 family restaurants, four McDonald’s Express locations and six kiosks, bringing the total number of McDonald’s restaurants in India to 70.
