Indian Animation Booms

The animation business in India, which is already worth a reported $300 million, is expected to grow 20 percent this year according to the National Association of Software and Services Companies. Animated TV programs like Piggley Winks, Jack Frost, and FrogSkool are already popular across India, and Indian cinemas will soon see the release of Bhaggmati - the Queen of Fortunes, Bollywood’s answer to Who Framed Roger Rabbit (17 years later?) The industry is booming because of India’s low-costs - where a half-hour 3D animated television show costs between $170,000-$250,000 in the U.S., Indian animators can produce it for as little as $70,000 - $100,000. In fact, the demand is so high that more training institutes are needed to train new animators, or else India will lose out to South Korea, Taiwan, and Chinese animation studios.
