ICC to decide on cricket in Delhi Commonwealth Games in Oct.
A brief article on New Kerala today talks about the possibility of cricket at the Delhi Commonwealth Games (2010 for those of you keeping score at home).
Dubai: The prospect of having cricket in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games received a shot in the arm with the ICC Chief Executive Committee (CEC) reviewing the proposal and including it in its Board meeting agenda in October.
”The CEC reviewed a proposal from the organisers of the Commonwealth Games in India in 2010. The matter has been referred to the ICC Board for further consideration at its meeting in October,” an ICC release said.
Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary S K Nair was among the delegates who attended the meeting.
Personally, I think it’s crazy not to have cricket in the Games, especially hosted at Delhi. It would be like not having football/soccer in the Olympics. I can’t really think of any good reason that cricket shouldn’t be approved, yet billiards and synchronized swimming are?
I’m sure a lot of you agree with me on this! Apparently the Scotts do:
Glasgow, which is bidding for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is already pushing hard to have the Twenty20 version of the game if they bag the event. Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith is already in touch with the Commonwealth Games Council of Scotland to make it happen.
I would be furious if they had it in Glasgow in ’14 but not in Delhi. It just shows how old fashioned the ICC still is. Hopefully they will come around, as it would be a lot of fun, and draw a LOT of people to the event.
