After turning out an historic performance at the US Open, advancing farther than any Indian woman before her, Sania Mirza ended her run in a 6-2 6-1 loss to first-seeded Maria Sharapova.

After much hype, the loss was a little disappointing, but even so, nobody can deny that Mirza’s effort at the tournament exceeded everyone’s expectations. As Sania becomes more experienced and continues practicing, she will become an even more seasoned and formidable competitor, perhaps even breaking the top 10 ranks in the future.
