England announces tour squad, Pakistan wets self

From the BBC:

England selectors have named the team they will take on tour for their November visit to Pakistan. As expected, all 12 players who guided England to win the Ashes against Australia, including injured bowler Simon Jones, are on the Test squad.

Veteran Hampshire spinner Shaun Udal, 36, is also included in the line-up, as a result of his “outstanding year for Hampshire”, said selectors.

Darren Gough is not in the one-day squad after he asked to be rested.

But 20-year-old Durham bowler Liam Plunkett will be joining the England team, the first time the young all-rounder will be part of a big tour.

England arrive in Pakistan on 26 October, with the first Test beginning on 12 November in Multan.

    New contracts

Elsewhere in cricket, 12 players have been awarded a 12-month contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

They are Michael Vaughan, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Ashley Giles, Andrew Flintoff, Matthew Hoggard, Stephen Harmison, Geraint Jones, Simon Jones, Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick.

I wouldn’t want to be in Pakistan’s shoes right now; that’s one tuff squad. But I guess that’s par for the course. England and Australia will probably dominate the rest of the world forever.
