Asia Cup groupings finalized: India and Pakistan in same section

The groupings for the much anticipated Asia Cup are official: In group A is are Bangladesh, defending champs Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. That leaves Pakistan, Oman, and India (last years’s runners up) to group B. It’s a bit confusing what all this means, but the Pak Tribune breaks it down pretty well:

According to the tournament format, two teams with maximum points in each group will advance to the second stage, where all four teams will play each other.

Then, the two teams with maximum points will clash in the final at Lahore Feb 28. March 1 has been earmarked as the reserve day for the final.

It should be another very exciting tournament. Sri Lanka looks good again this year, and I think India may have actually gotten a little worse, although Rahul Dravid is really coming along. Our performance in this series will greatly influence how India sees its team, for sure.
