Bollywood stars host shows for earthquake relief

Bollywood stars Mahesh Bhatt, Shatrughan Sinha and Ashok Pandit today pledged to hold shows across the country to raise funds for quake-victem relief. As Bhatt said, Pakistani film stars pitched in in the aftermath of the tsunami, so it’s only fair that Bollywood rallies to ease the damage of another terrible natural disaster in Pakistan.

From OutllookIndia.com:

Moved by the plight of the survivors, Bhatt said corporate sector was not playing its due role in reaching out to the affected people. “We will go back and give a wake up call to the private industries to play their role in reconstruction of quake-hit areas of the state.” Actor-turned politician Sinha said lot needs to be done for the quake-hit villages. “Too much devastation and destruction has caused by the killer earthquake. We need to rise above political considerations to help the survivors to rebuild their homes and hearts”.

In regards to Indian aid, and specifically the proposal put forth by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to allow free movement of aid workers across the LoC, Sinha rather flippantly responded “better late than never.”

Ashok Pandit said, “I belong to this place (Kashmir) and I feel it is my family that is shelterless, hungry and in need of help.

So here’s wishing all the best to the victems of the earthquake, and urging everybody to give generously to the relief aid. Here is one good place to donate.
