India goes down 0-1 in first match vs. South Africa

Well, it looks like the Indians are human after all. Mostly due to a collapse in the top of India’s order, the boys in blue went down hard to their South African rivals. Their late game, 83-run rally was not enough to overcome the early loss of wickets.

South Africa is the 2nd ranked ODI one-day cricket team just behind Australia, and everyone agrees it will be a hard match. The loss is discouraging, however, after the 6-1 victory over Sri Lanka.

The South Africans are optimistic about the rest of the series, but they’re not celebrating yet, nor should they be:

“The bowlers did well in the morning and it was a gutsy batting display which saw us through,” Smith said.

He complimented Jacques Kallis for controlling the innings but said the team needed to work on the bowling in the death overs.

“It is important to go up 1-0 in a five match series but the next match would be a fresh start.”

As always, you can stay tuned to Boulevard India for all of the results for the rest of the series.
